Haunted Hounds Spooked the Town of Vienna

Posted by Beth J. Bates

Meredith, Danielle, Andrea and I had a fantastic time at Spooky Pooch last night. The weather held out (no rain and not freezing cold!) and everyone that participated seem to have a great time. The costumes were incredibly creative and absoutely hilarious. After the judging, we mounted up and marched in the 62nd Annual Vienna Halloween parade. It was loads of fun and as always, the kids loved the dogs. More photos to come – can’t wait until next year! Happy Halloween everyone!

Mastiffs and Beagles and Yorkies, Oh My!

Posted by Beth J. Bates

Vienna, VA (October 27, 2005) – Among the marching bands and classic cars, the nighttime streets of Vienna were occupied by about two dozen four-legged friends hoping to win a treat for the best costume. GoodDogz.org, a non-profit organization supporting the efforts of dog rescue, hosted its 3rd Annual Spooky Pooch Contest at the 59th Annual Halloween Parade in Vienna, VA on Wednesday, October 26. Dogs from all over the metro DC area were on call to participate in this fiendish fundraising event.
Doggie duds ranged from scary skeletons to beautiful ballerinas, and a few owners even dressed in synch with their canine companions. The three costume categories judged were Spookiest, Most Creative and Best Doggie/Owner Combo and prizes were donated by Happy Trails Dog Spa and Woofie’s. Participants also received ghastly goodie bags full of tricks and treats.

After the judging, all of the participants paraded their way down Maple Ave. to a crowd of 30,000+ spectators. And to prove that these pups were top dogs, the GoodDogz.org Spooky Pooch Troop won second place in the Adult Performance category out of 80+ marching groups.

The event raised $500 for GoodDogz.org which will benefit homeless dogs and the organizations that care for them.

GoodDogz.org is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to educating potential dog owners on dog selection and care and supporting the efforts of rescue groups. We believe that by assisting with good dog-owner matches, we’ll give each family the best opportunity for a life-long relationship with their new dog and help to keep dogs out of shelters.
