About GoodDogz.org
GoodDogz.org is a
501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to educating potential dog
owners on dog selection and care and supporting the efforts of rescue
groups. We believe that by assisting with good dog-owner matches, we'll
give each family the best opportunity for a life-long relationship with
their new dog and help to keep dogs out of shelters.
Our Mission:
GoodDogz.org,
Inc. is dedicated to educating potential dog owners about dog selection
and care and providing support to dog rescue organizations. Our goal is
to increase the number of successful dog adoptions and decrease the
number of dogs in shelters.
Our Position:
- Education is the key to responsible pet ownership.
- Public support is critical to the success of animal rescue organizations.
- Pets are a life-long commitment and should be considered a member of the family.
Rescue Group Database
We
always recommend dog adoption. Rescue groups from all over the country
are invited to submit a rescue profile to our online database.
Potential adopters can search for rescue groups that specialize in a
specific breed or can look at group profiles in their area. The
information included in each profile will help dog seekers ensure that
they encounter the type of adoption experience that they would like to
have.
Rescue Group Surveys
Four
groups of people are invited to rate the GoodDogz.org dog rescue groups
with which they've interacted. Adopters, volunteers, foster parents and
donors are all encouraged to rate different aspects of their rescue
experience. Adopters are asked about "truth in adoption", home checks, paperwork and post-adoption support. Volunteers are encouraged to rate the guidance they were given in their volunteer efforts and the quality/availability of the leadership. Foster parents
can rate the information they were given about their foster dog(s) and
the medical/behavioral support that was provided to them. Donors
(of money or items) will be asked if they received a receipt and enough
information about the group and if they feel that the donations were
properly allocated.
Public Education
We
believe that education is the key to ensuring that dogs stay in their
loving homes and don't end up in shelters. By using our online guide,
dog seekers can consider all facets of dog adoption and ownership
before stepping into a shelter or visiting a rescue organizations.
GoodDogz.org also provides in-person presentations for classrooms and
civic groups as well as workshops and classes on a variety of different
topics.
Rescue Group Support
We
strive to support the efforts of rescue groups by offering resources
focusing on the needs of the rescue worker. Adoption counseling and
adopter evaluation are among a variety of the topics covered by our
materials. Workshops for individual or regional groups are also
available.
GoodDogz.org also sponsors at least two-three super
pet adoption events per year. These adoption events allow rescue
organizations to gain more public exposure for their animals and their
organization than they would normally receive.
